Police gears up to manage traffic on Char Dham routes

The police have made arrangements in all main points of Char Dham Yatra to manage traffic ahead of the commencement of the Yatra. The police have announced Rishikesh-Munikreti Lakshmanjhula to be a circle where the traffic arrangements will be managed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Tehri, Asmita Mamgai, who has been appointed as a nodal officer of the circle. Temporary police chowkis including Reporting Chowki, Watch and Ward Police Chowki and seasonal Chowki have also been set up in various districts to monitor the situation in the respective areas. There are 46 permanent police stations, 68 Reporting Chowkis, 26 Watch and Ward Police Chowkis and 47 seasonal Chowkis in seven districts- Uttarkashi, Tehri, Chamoli, Haridwar, Dehradun, Pauri and Rudraprayag. Authorities will also use 39 cranes and other machinery to tow vehicles parked in no parking zones during the Yatra. Authorities will also use 12 interceptors to manage traffic situation. A total of 29 highway traffic patrol police are deployed on the routes of the Char Dham Yatra in order to provide all the possible help to pilgrims. Also, a total of 581 traffic police personnel have been deployed in 133 different locations in the said districts. Besides this, the authorities have marked 164 parking areas that can accomodate about 2,44,357 two-wheeler and four-wheeler vehicles in the seven districts.
