The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Griha Awaas Yojana (homestay scheme) being run by the State government is proving helpful in promoting the hill cuisine along with tourism. Under the Tehri district administration’s initiative, the pilgrims on Char Dham Yatra while staying in homestays are savouring the local hill cuisine. Besides, they are being introduced to the hill products. The homestay operators say they are happy with things.
Notably, Tehri district houses two of the four shrines- Gangotri and Yamunotri. At the Chardham Yatra stopover at Tiwad village which is known as homestay hub, pilgrims are tasting the culinary art of the local villages. They are liking both the lunch they are being served and night stay in the homestay facilities. This is boosting the business of the locals, said a homestay operator from Tiwad village, Manoj Panwar.
