Frustrated with the incomplete works of the Smart City project and the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), the residents of Dehradun have decided to release a people’s manifesto. This decision was taken at a brainstorming session held to decide on an action plan on the basis of the suggestions from representatives of social organisations who participated in the recent ‘Jan Samvad’ organised by the Sanyukta Nagarik Sangathan. After collecting suggestions from the people of Doon on the public manifesto, it will be handed over to the government administration officials and public representatives for implementation.

There will also be a demand to ensure participation of social organisations in development works. A large-scale awareness campaign will be conducted to get the consent of the common people in the public manifesto and their signatures will also be obtained. Discussions were also held on the Smart City works, traffic jams, rising encroachment, large scale tree felling and the problems faced by the common people. Citizens also expressed dissatisfaction at the environmental damage, plight of half-finished footpaths, serious damage to trees and plants on Parade Ground and lack of public facilities.

The coordination committee formed to work on the people’s manifesto includes brigadier (retd) KG Behl, Ravi Chopra, Jagmohan Mendiratta, Jitendra Anthwal, Anil Jaggi and others.
