Haridwar MP, former Union minister and ex chief minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank released the book ‘The Heavenly Abode’ written on the state’s cuisine by Smriti Hari and Ashu Jain. Speaking at the book launch in Mussoorie, Nishank said Uttarakhand is the land of gods and the State’s Pahadi food also provides considerable health benefits. The Heavenly Abode will be a milestone for Uttarakhandi cuisine. The book is full of valuable information for the cooks and people of the country and abroad. He also said that it is difficult to be mentally healthy if one is not physically healthy, adding that Uttarakhandi food has all the properties to keep a person healthy physically as well as mentally. He congratulated Hari and Jain for writing the book on Uttarakhandi cuisine.

Hari said that the book comprises 84 pages and is based on well researched information along with co-author Ashu Jain. The two are local residents of Mussoorie and share a passion for food. They researched for about two years to write this book. This comprehensive food guide has recipes of beverages, condiments, finger foods, meals and desserts including snippets of the health benefits of these food items. Uttarakhandi cuisine though traditionally grain and cereal based is made up of simple ingredients that retains its nutritional qualities and flavour which is also one of its many USPs.
