The non- operation of two city buses of the Uttarkashi municipality has been causing inconvenience to locals, especially the senior citizens and school children. These buses were flagged off several months ago by former municipality chairman Ramesh Semwal on the last day of his tenure, but since then these buses have been standing outside the municipality office gathering dust. According to the official sources, the municipality is yet to get the required license from the regional transport office (RTO) to operate buses. Responding to the non- operation of the city buses for the past several months, the municipal executive officer Shiv Singh Chauhan said that the municipality has started the required process regarding the matter which is expected to be completed soon. However, the locals are infuriated with the continuous delay in the operation of city buses and called the authorities to be negligent of their plight. They said that due to the non-operation of city buses, they have to wait for hours for passenger vehicles, many of whom do not provide them services near Gangotri highway. This causes difficulty for locals, especially senior citizens and school students every day. The whole town is suffering because of the lax attitude of the authorities, they added.
