The Padma Shri and Arjuna awardee former captain of the Indian women hockey team, Vandana Katariya said after meeting the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami that there is no confusion over the renaming of the Vandana Katariya Hockey Stadium and no such government order has been issued to change the stadium’s name. While addressing a media conference here on Saturday, she said that with some people talking about the change of the stadium’s name, she had met the CM in Dehradun. “Let me clear the confusion once and for all. The sports complex has been named Yogsthalli with the name of the hockey stadium remaining unchanged,” she said, adding that no one should do politics on the name change of the stadium with the issue now being a closed one.
Former Cabinet minister Swami Yatishwaranand said that the CM himself had named the stadium after the woman hockey legend. “His government rolled out sports policy and has been implementing various scholarships for the players to promote sports. So it is unimaginable that he could have ordered the change of the stadium’s name,” he added while speaking at the same press conference.
