PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

In latest news from Doon, in a stern action, the Pollution Control Board, Dehradun has sent notices to about 12 bar/restaurants operating in the city, ordering them to comply with the environment norms within a fortnight or face penalty up to Rs 50 lakh and sealing.

PCB sources said that they had received a large number of complaints about these bars/restaurants which have allegedly been discharging hundreds of litres of untreated water straight into the Ganga, thus polluting the river. This aside, some of them have been operating sans clearance from PCB.  Notably, PCB sealed three bars/restaurants recently for non-compliance of environment norms.

Informing this, the regional officer, PCB, Amit Pokhriyal said that if these bars/restaurants fail to meet the norms within the deadline set penalty will be slapped and these may be even shut down.
