New speed limit imposed in Doon impractical: Anand

Sunday, 13 AUGUST 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Terming the new rules on speed limits imposed by the police in Dehradun as impractical, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ravinder Singh Anand has said that the general public is facing problems from it. He said that it appears as if the police have undertaken a campaign to collect money from the public for the State government.

Interacting with the media persons at the State party office, Anand said that as per the new rules the maximum speed limit in the city roads is 30 km per hour. ‘E challans are being sent to the people when this limit is exceeded.  When one travels from the clock tower to Sahansahi Ashram on Rajpur Road it is difficult to maintain the speed limit and as soon as one crosses it, an e- challan is sent by police,’’ he said. Anand said that people are very angry and want it to be repealed. He said that the police should have undertaken an awareness drive to inform the people about the new rule. Anand said that there is no sign board of the speed limit on the roads of Dehradun.

He said that the vehicles of government officers and police are exempted from this rule. Anand claimed that the vehicles of government officers and police are used to transport children to the schools and these vehicles are driven at the speed which exceeded the limits. This is highly discriminatory and against the principle of justice, he added. Anand said that it appears that the BJP government has deployed the police to collect revenue for it. He demanded that the new rules should be taken back. The AAP leader threatened that the party will start an agitation if the demand is not accepted.
