Five arrested for murder on Deepawali in Rudrapur

The Udham Singh Nagar police have arrested five persons involved in the murder of a person named Daljeet Singh (23) who was shot dead after an argument over bursting firecrackers during Deepawali  celebrations in Rudrapur on Tuesday. The senior superintendent of police (SSP) of US Nagar, Manjunath TC informed in a Press conference in Rudrapur on Wednesday that the deceased Daljeet who had come to a relative’s house in Metropolis Society of Rudrapur from Bilaspur in Uttar Pradesh (UP) to celebrate Deepawali, was bursting firecrackers, when one cracker landed in the flat of the main accused Gurveer Singh.

This triggered a heated argument between them but the matter was pacified after neighbours intervened. However, when Daljeet was returning to Bilaspur at around 1:30 AM on Tuesday, Gurveer and his accomplice stopped and brutally thrashed him. Gurveer then fired on Daljeet’s stomach with his revolver and the whole incident was recorded in CCTV camera due to which, police were able to identify all accused, said the SSP. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital but he died during the treatment in Haldwani. The police had detained one accused the same day and the four culprits, who were planning to flee to another country via Punjab from Moradabad, were nabbed within 24 hours on Wednesday, said the SSP. The names of the other four accused are Prabhjot Singh, Kanwal Singh, Amandeep and Jatin. He also announced a reward of Rs 10,000 for the team to nab the culprits within 24 hours.
