The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday got one-day police custody remand of industrialist Sudhir Windlass and three others accused in land fraud cases in Uttarakhand. The CBI had arrested Windlass and the three other accused late on Thursday. They were presented in the CBI special court on Friday evening.

According to the officials, the CBI team asked the court for a three-day custody remand of all the accused but they were granted only one day remand. Another hearing will be carried out on Saturday, they said. Last year, the authorities had received complaints that Windlass and some of his accomplices allegedly sold them land with forged documents.

According to the complaints, the complainants were allegedly sold the land of the dead people who Windlass and his associates presented as alive to them. The police started the investigation after a case was registered against the accused in Rajpur police station. However, the complainants demanded a CBI inquiry into the case after which, the State government handed over the investigation to the CBI.

The CBI had also raided Windlass’ house on Rajpur Road and some other properties earlier this year.  During the raids, the team checked important documents, electronic devices and got crucial information, as per the officials. They also added that the CBI will possibly ask the court to extend the remand of all accused during the hearing on Saturday.
