Municipal commissioner orders filling of potholes on roads

The Dehradun municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey directed the zonal officers of the city to conduct regular inspections of their respective areas in Dehradun and ensure no waterlogging occurs due to choked drains. He has also issued orders to fill potholes on roads to avoid waterlogging which might cause road accidents too. He has directed the officers to conduct the inspections on a daily basis and asked them to send the seniors on-location pictures.

Unlike the past years, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has received comparatively few complaints this year during the rainy season. It has been more than a month since the MCD set up a disaster control room that operates 24 hours a day in its premises but it has received hardly around 25 complaints so far. According to the operator of the control room Manish, the corporation used to get the complaints of mostly overflowing drains but since the corporation had started the cleaning of drains quite early and thoroughly across the city, the calls regarding the waterlogging issues are quite less. “We had received about 100 complaints during this time the last year but we have got only 25 this time. Most of the complaints we have received so far are about fallen trees or broken branches of big trees which are mostly from the Rajpur area,” said Manish. However, he added that since the rainy season has just started, it is possible that MCD might receive more complaints in the coming days.
