In pursuance of orders issued by the chief secretary, the State Tax department has so far conducted spot verification/inspection of 9,321 businessmen who have filed nil return or not filed their tax returns for quite some time.
According to official sources, the departmental team conducted stock verification in the godown of an electronics goods trader in Dehradun and found the stock to be less. The businessman claimed that Rs 10 lakh ITC has been reserved.
Similarly, the team also conducted stock verification in the establishment of a tyre dealer in Haridwar. The team found the stock to be less and was pursuing action for Rs 15 lakh ITC reversal.
Further, while conducting checks at the Kathgodam railway, most of the goods was found to be related to display traders and without bill. Inspecting the exhibition area, the officials found that a total of 120 shops have been allocated in the area with an agreement being made for Rs 1.27 crore with Haryana Fun Fair for which Rs 19 lakh GST has been deposited in favour of Haryana. The trader agreed to deposit the said tax amount in favour of Uttarakhand.
