Ahead of the International Women’s Day slated on March 8, several city restaurants, cafes and beauty salons have introduced special discounts to attract customers. Though the celebration of the day is still low-key, things are slowly picking up. Taking note of the day increasingly catching fancy of the people, cafe and beauty salon owners have started offering discounts to entice customers. They say that around this time they try their best to satisfy their customers to make sure that they will come again though there will be no discount on offer for them then.

Commenting on the offers and discounts to commemorate the day, a café owner Jolly Bindra said that she runs a small café in Dehradun. “The café usually has a normal crowd, but to bring more customers, we put up offers and discounts on special occasions. I am a woman myself and so the International Women’s Day holds a special significance for me.  We have introduced multiple offers this time that started on March 1 and will conclude on March 8. One of the offers is that whoever finishes one plate of momo in one minute will get another plate of momo at no cost. Similarly, there are many other offers on other dishes,” she added.

Another restaurant owner Jassi Singh said that he has decided to add a special menu with discounts for women on this occasion. “We offer discounts on this day not only to promote this restaurant but also to spread awareness about the importance of women in society,” he added.

Several beauty salons based in the city have offered discounts on haircuts, facials and other skin and hair care services during the Women’s Day week.

Asked whether she feels special with the city gearing up for the day, a local resident Sonia Goyal gave a nod with a smile.  “By offering discounts and promoting this day, restaurants and cafes are telling people that women deserve to be recognised,” she added.
