The carcass of a leopard shot in Badikot area of Almora district after being declared a maneater was discovered in the bushes by the forest department team on Tuesday morning. A leopard had killed a seven year old girl on September 19 at Badikot in Bhikiyasain block of the district. The leopard was declared a maneater after that.

The Almora divisional forest officer Mahatim Singh Yadav said that on Monday evening, a leopard was shot in the same location at Badikot where it had killed a girl last month. The big cat was shot late in the evening by Lakhpat Singh Rawat and Bijnor resident Ali Adnan. However, the leopard escaped to the jungle even as darkness prevented the shooters from tracking it. The body of the leopard was found in the bushes on Tuesday morning. The leopard was an adult male and had sustained two bullet wounds which proved fatal.
