Taking cognisance of inputs from the Health minister, media reports and the furore generated in the social media in the case involving the alleged high handedness of the Health secretary with an associate professor of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered cancellation of transfer of Dr Nidhi Uniyal from GDMC to Soban Singh Jeena Medical College, Almora on Friday. He has also directed the chief secretary Sukhbir Singh Sandhu to order a high level inquiry on the allegation of misbehaviour with Dr Uniyal. Acting on the directive of Dhami, the CS has ordered the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Manisha Panwar to conduct a fact finding inquiry in the whole episode. The CM took cognisance of the media reports and social media inputs on the issue a day after Dr Uniyal was suddenly transferred from GDMC to Almora. After her transfer Dr Uniyal had resigned from her position in protest against what she termed high handedness of the Health secretary.

In her resignation letter she said that on Thursday morning she was asked to examine the ailing wife of the Health secretary at their home. Following the order she left her general OPD where a large number of patients were present and went to the residence of the secretary along with two employees. Dr Uniyal examined the wife of the secretary but she became annoyed on realising that the doctor had left the BP measuring instrument in the car. Dr Uniyal claimed that the wife of the secretary used unsavoury language while addressing her on which she objected and left the house of the secretary. Later she was asked to tender an apology to the wife of the secretary but she refused. In the afternoon Dr Uniyal was transferred from GDMC, Dehradun to Almora medical college following which she resigned from her post. Her resignation triggered a wave of protest in the social media with users castigating the officer and his wife for calling the doctor to their house and then insulting her. On Friday morning the Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat met CM Dhami at the residence of the latter and explained the issue following which CM cancelled the transfer of the doctor and ordered an inquiry.
