The drinking water and rain water harvesting minister Bishan Singh Chufal has said that more than one drinking water scheme should not be implemented in one village and area and strict punitive action would be taken against those involved in preparing and making such schemes in one area. He gave this direction while chairing a review meeting of Peyjal Nigam and Jal Sansthan at his office in Vidhan Sabha on Thursday. The minister reviewed the progress of the ambitious Jal Jivan Mission and Peri Urban mission in the meeting.

He said that the areas where the piped tap water connections were given under Jal Jeevan Mission and water supply has got reduced should be earmarked and alternative arrangements for providing water should be made. He emphasised that the project should be made with a long term perspective. The minister said that provision of adequate budget should be made for the areas suffering from the problem of supply of water and priority should be given to such areas.

Chufal said that twenty hand pumps in every assembly constituency located in mountainous areas and ten plain areas should be installed. On a terse note the minister ordered that the officers of the department and the work executing agencies should produce the utilisation certificates (UC) of the drinking water projects completed by them within three days. He said that in the areas where water supply is good but the water gets overflowed due to small tanks, provision of construction of larger tanks should be made. He said that the process of appointment of junior engineers (JEs) from the outsource agencies should be expedited to increase the pace of projects under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The minister also directed that the pending process of the promotions in the Peyjal Nigam and Jal Sansthan should be completed so that a proper structure of these departments is made.
