The State’s Transport minister Chandan Ram Dass flagged of the first electric bus on the Dehradun-Delhi route from the ISBT here on Saturday. The bus is part of the five electric buses to be operated on the Dehradun-Delhi route by the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) as a pilot project for three months to analyse their functionality on the the route. The service is being operated by UTC in partnership with electric inter-city coach services brand NueGo.

According to the company, the coaches are sanitised before every trip and coach pilots go through breath analyser tests. NueGo services feature live coach tracking, drop point geo-location, and monitored in-coach CCTV surveillance.

According to pan-India shared electric mobility player GreenCell Mobility’s director Satish Mandhana, “We are excited to launch Uttarakhand’s first electric bus and are committed to redefining the shared and connected green mobility customer experience in the State. Through our NueGo services, we will bring a paradigm shift to the travel experience while ensuring zero-tail pipe emission thus helping reduce the ecological footprint of travel.”

It should be mentioned here that electric bus adoption has gained traction in India and multiple cities with State governments having embarked on the journey of electrifying their bus-based transport system. This has been further accelerated by the Government of India’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India (FAME) Phase – II scheme.
