Migration from border areas bad for national security: Gen Rawat

Migration from villages near the international border is not good for national security. The chief of defence staff, General Bipin Rawat said this while addressing senior police officers here on the role of Uttarakhand in tackling national security challenges at the state police headquarters on Tuesday.

Appreciating the law and order situation in the state, general Rawat appreciated the role being played by the police. Sharing his views on reverse migration, he expressed concern at the migration from areas near the international border. He stressed on the need for focusing on reverse migration in such areas while boosting development schemes in such areas. Road network, health and education facilities will have to be increased in such areas, he said. General Rawat further said that the law and order situation in Uttarakhand is good which results in a good environment for industry and tourism. The army is also considering to move the inner line forward to further encourage tourism, he added.

The director general of police, Ashok Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
