CM to flag off Dehradun Marathon from police line today

More than 15k participants from India & 15 nations participating in event

Athletes from 15 nations in addition to India have registered for the Dehradun marathon being organised by Uttarakhand police on the themes of Run for Unity and Run Against Drugs in Dehradun today. Director general of police Ashok Kumar informed that the run is being organised to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel and to raise public awareness on the campaign for making Uttarakhand drugs-free by 2025. About 15,000 people have registered for the marathon.

According to officials, 112 athletes from 15 nations including Afghanistan, United Kingdom, Belize, United States, Peru, Andorra, Nepal, Dominican Republic, Algeria, South Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Malawi, Liberia and Japan have registered for the half marathon. Apart from these, about 15,000 persons from 24 States and four union territories have also registered for the run. For the 21 kilometre run, a total of 3,255 persons including 3,027 males and 228 females have registered while 5,100 runners including 4,351 males and 749 females have registered for the 10 kilometre run. A three-kilometre fun run is also being organised for theme awareness along with the half marathon.

A total cash prize of Rs 10 lakh along with consolation prizes will be given to winners and participants in various categories in the half marathon. All participants in the 21 kilometres and 10 kilometres categories will be provided free timing chips. Every runner who finishes the 21 kilometre half marathon and the top 10 runners who complete the 10 kilometres run will be presented with a finisher medal.

The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will flag off the Dehradun marathon at 7:35 AM from the police line. Popular singers will also give performances to be staged during the programme.

The 21 kilometre half marathon starting from the police line will pass through EC Road, Rajpur Road, Canal Road and Kathbangla before returning to the starting point. The 10 kilometre run will begin from the police line and pass through EC Road, Survey Chowk, Rajpur Road and Great Value Chowk before returning to the starting point. The Uttarakhand police with the assistance of the Vyapar Mandal and volunteers have arranged for water points and physiotheraphy points along the route of the run in addition to deployment of ambulance. More than 50 personnel of the State Disaster Response Force will also be posted along the route of the half marathon.
