The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said that the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is making efforts at the ground level to get into the top 50 cleanest cities of the country in the eighth edition of Swachchh Survekshan.
The mayor said that the corporation has witnessed major improvement in the past four years from the 284th position to the 69th position and to ensure the ranking improves this year too, steps are being taken in the city. He said that all officials concerned have been directed to prepare a foolproof plan and ensure its execution to get the city into the top 50 cleanest cities in Swachchh Survekshan 2023 (SS23). He said that he has asked the senior officials to make plans as per the criteria through which the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs gives points to civic bodies.
The teams have been directed to work on improving the sanitation facilities in the areas that need it the most. He said that since garbage disposal is one of the major issues that often leads to issues like waste accumulation in roadside areas, a proper plan must be prepared to tackle it. He also asked the agencies deployed for door to door garbage collection in all wards to take initiatives to ensure proper garbage segregation before collection. He has asked the officials to ensure citizens’ participation in cleanliness drives as it plays an important role in maintaining sanitation across the city.
‘Gama’ said that he has also been conducting cleanliness campaigns three times a week to raise awareness among locals about sanitation and SS23. He conducted a cleanliness campaign in Dev Suman Nagar and Indiranagar on the weekend under his Swachchh Ward Sundar Doon campaign along with respective councillors and MLAs. He said that the corporation also got a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh under Atal Nirmal Nagar Puraskar (ANNP) from chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for securing a position in the top 100 cleanest cities of the country in SS22. He said that the city will definitely get into the top 50 ranking in SS23 with its planning and execution.
