The Urban Development directorate started the Jal Diwali campaign in Dehradun on Tuesday under the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM) of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). This campaign aims to provide a platform for the inclusion of women of various self help groups (SHGs) in water governance.

The officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), the directorate and associated departments took them on a visit to water purification plants in the Dilaram Bazaar area. The deputy director of the directorate Neelu Bala said that the women were given knowledge about the water treatment process while giving them insight into water quality testing protocols to ensure households get clean water.

The officials said that the aim of the campaign was to instill a sense of ownership and belonging among women towards water infrastructure. They said that the women play a significant role in household water management and by empowering them with knowledge about water treatment, the MoHUA aims to enhance their ability to ensure access to clean drinking water to households.
