MCD gears up to increase senior citizens’ participation in SS22 to maximise scores

Thursday, 13 January 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

Considering the weightage of the feedback of senior citizens in the Citizen’s Feedback subcategory of Citizen under Swacchh Survekshan 2022 (SS22), the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has decided to start door to door awareness campaign in the city to create awareness about the cleanliness survey. The officials are also planning to use social media platforms to reach maximum locals to encourage their participation in SS22. The feedback from senior citizens is an integral part of Citizen’s Feedback that holds 400 marks alone out of a total of 600 marks. The ‘youth’ sub-category holds 200 marks but only its 50 per cent weightage will be added to the final score while the remaining weightage will be given to the feedback received from the citizens of other age groups. The registration of the feedback started on January 1 and will end on February 28. Since many people aged 60 years and above are not aware of Citizen’s Feedback or the ways through which they can register their feedback about sanitation facilities in the city, the MCD has formed teams to raise awareness and educate locals. The senior municipal health officer Dr RK Singh informed that the corporation has formed a team of 10 people who will work on educating the locals through the door to door campaign, especially the senior citizens. He said, “The teams will tell people about SS22 and how their participation is quite crucial for the city to attain a good position in the country. They will explain all the modes through which locals can give their feedback. All the team members will abide by the Covid-19 protocols during the campaign. Though we have already started the door to door visits in some areas of the MKP ward, it will be soon commenced in other wards too in association with the respective councillors.” After getting only a one-star rating in the Garbage Free City (GFC) category last year, the corporation is also focussing on making efforts to ensure proper garbage disposal in the city. Singh said that the teams will also educate locals about waste segregation and adopting composting in their homes.  He said that the MCD is working hard to improve the sanitation facilities to score every potential mark in every category as the competition would likely be tougher than the last year. “Dehradun achieved 82nd rank in the category of cities with 1-10 lakh population with 369 cities but 422 cities are participating this year. The city got 3,462 marks out of a total of 6,000 which has now been increased to 7,500 marks. Competition is tough but we will leave no stone unturned to get into the top 50 cleanest cities in SS22,” he added.
