The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has digitised the property tax submission procedure in its two zonal offices in the city. The tax collection has slowed down in the municipal corporation due to the Covid-curfew in the city since April. In order to make the tax submission process updated and easy for locals, the municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey recently directed the officials to digitise the whole tax submission process in the two zonal offices of MCD in Chakshahnagar and Rajpur.

According to the municipal officials there are a total of 10,000 locals in these two zones who pay property tax to the corporation. Till now, most of the tax submission process like keeping property tax record and issuing receipts after the tax submission was carried out manually. Now as per the commissioner’s orders, the tax submission system has been digitised in these two zonal offices too which would benefit the locals of the areas like Dharmpur, Araghar, Rajpur and Nehru Colony. Meanwhile, talking about the property tax submission in the corporation in this financial year, the tax superintendent Dharmesh Painuly said that MCD has collected only about Rs one crore since April. He said that people have also started to arrive in MCD premises for tax submission but only five to 10 people arrive on daily basis. The online tax submission is also slow and very few people are presently depositing their tax, said Painuly.

It is pertinent to mention here that in the last financial year, the corporation collected only about Rs 35 crore against the set target of Rs 50 crore as many commercial establishment owners did not submit property tax due to loss in business during the Covid-19 pandemic as per the officials. Besides this, the property tax of several government buildings, non-government and aided organisations is still pending for over two years which is worth about Rs 15 crore.
