MCD awaits deposition of property tax by government bodies and aided organisations

Though the current financial year will end in two months, the deposition of property tax of the government bodies and aided organisations of Dehradun city is still pending which is more than Rs 10 crore.

The property tax is one of the important revenue sources of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD), especially the property tax on non-residential buildings. The Non-residential properties generate a lot more revenue than residential properties which contribute profoundly to the overall collection of the property tax by the MCD. However, many government buildings have failed to deposit the property tax on time. Last year, the corporation issued notices to about 92 governments, semi-government and aided institutions in the city like Forest Research Institute (FRI), Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA), Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT) and Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital out of which many still have not deposited the property tax so far. Talking about the pending property tax, the municipal tax superintendent, Poonam Rawat said that the corporation has started getting property tax from government bodies and aided organisations. She said that various bodies like Allahabad bank, Uttarakhand Khadi and Village Industries board and ISBT have already deposited the property tax and the remaining will possibly deposit by the end of March. The officials informed that over Rs 10 crore of property tax of such buildings is pending and the corporation has sent bills to such properties and have instructed to deposit the tax within the given time period. It is noteworthy to mention here that the municipal corporation has collected the revenue of around Rs 22 crore in the last 10 months from residential and non-residential property owners. The locals can submit property tax with 20 percent rebate till February 15 while the last date to deposit tax is March 31.
