The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) took action against 508 individuals for encroachments on roadside areas of the city in the past one week. The enforcement drive, conducted by zonal Zebra Force teams, resulted in a total fine collection of Rs 2.82 lakh, the Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal said. She said that the teams also confiscated goods from the encroachers, including 27 display boards and 45 handcarts, which were deposited in the MCD warehouse.
This action comes under strict directives issued by the Bansal on May 1 to clear major roads and footpaths and improve traffic movement across the city. She had instructed all teams to continue strict enforcement against any form of encroachment to help realise the vision of a cleaner and more organised Dehradun. Bansal also urged citizens not to occupy public spaces such as parks, footpaths, riversides or drains.
Legal action will be taken against anyone found violating these guidelines by encroaching on public property, she said. Besides this, MCD officials found during inspections of Sahastradhara Road and Shimla Bypass Road on Wednesday that underground wires of street lights installed by the MCD have been reportedly damaged by various construction agencies while carrying out their work.
Considering this, MCD has asked the departments concerned to repair the damaged lights promptly to avoid any unfortunate incident or inconvenience to common people.
