Monday, 16 May 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The health department of Uttarakhand would observe dengue prevention month from May 16 to June 15. The national dengue day would be observed on May 16. The government of India has set up a theme ‘Dengue is preventable; let us join hands’ for this year’s National Dengue day.

The director National Health Mission (NHM), Dr Saroj Naithani has directed all the districts to observe the dengue prevention month. She said that the health department and NHM are working to control dengue by public participation.

The data of the state health department suggest that in the year 2019 the state had 10622 cases of dengue while in the year 2020 only 76 cases of the disease were reported. Last year the disease affected 738 people in the state. Dengue is a viral infection spread by the mosquito Aedes Aezypti popularly known as Tiger Mosquito.  The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints.

In the acute cases the platelets number decreases drastically which may prove fatal for the patient.  In Uttarakhand the disease is more prevalent in Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts.  The experts opine that the dengue is shifting the place of its infestation every year and public awareness is key to prevent the spread of the disease.
