Man arrested for printing fake QR codes, liquor labels of pharmaceutical companies

The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested Dehradun resident Sanjay for allegedly printing fake QR codes, outer boxes and liquor labels of several reputed pharmaceutical companies. The arrest was made by the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) following reports of counterfeit packaging being used to sell fake medicines across multiple states. The senior superintendent of police of STF, Navneet Singh Bhullar said that the accused identified as Sanjay, a resident of Selaqui area, was apprehended with a large quantity of printed outer boxes, labels and wrappers. According to him, the printing work was being carried out using facilities at three local printing presses in Dehradun. The authorities had received complaints earlier regarding fake packaging materials of well-known pharmaceutical companies, including Sun Pharma, Dr. Reddy Laboratories, Zydus, Glenmark and Alkem. These materials included QR codes and show boxes or outer packaging, which were reportedly being used to pack counterfeit medicines and distribute them in various states, posing a risk to public health. The SSP said that the investigation revealed that Sanjay was involved in printing fake pharmaceutical and liquor packaging materials. Further investigation is underway to trace the printing presses involved and determine the full extent of the operation, he said.
