Make long-term plan for Nainital- Guv to stakeholders

The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh has called for the need to work out a long-term plan to increase infrastructural facilities in Nainital and to link it with global tourism. He was holding a meeting with the members of the Nainital hotel association, Vyapar Mandal and Boat House club at Raj Bhawan in Nainital on Wednesday. In the meeting detailed discussion on the challenge posed by increasing number of tourists in Nainital was held. 

The governor said that Nainital city is a heritage of Uttarakhand and to increase infrastructural facilities in the city to meet the challenge of increasing tourist number is our collective responsibility.  He said that there is need to work on a long term plan to strengthen parking facility, road connectivity and increasing drinking water facility in Nainital. The governor suggested that all stakeholders should come together to prepare a master plan to make Nainital best tourism destination. He said that construction of multi-storey parking and trolley should be worked upon to get rid from the parking problems in Nainital. He also suggested that value addition and modernisation should be done for the tourists. The office bearers of the associations informed the governor about their problems and suggested that the parking capacity of the city should be increased and the traffic plan should be strengthened. They also demanded construction of a heliport and cleaning of drains in the city. Assuring the delegates that necessary action would be taken the Governor said that interaction with chief minister, chief secretary, local administration and departments concerned would be held on their issues.

The governor’s secretary Ranjit Sinha also put forward various suggestions in the meeting. He said that a DPR for repair work of Naini lake in the disaster head would be prepared. The hotel association vice president Digvijay Bisht, general secretary Ved Shah and office bearers of various Vyapar Mandals were also present in the meeting.
