The Dehradun police nabbed two men belonging to Uttar Pradesh for allegedly circulating counterfeit notes in Raipur area on Thursday. The police had received information about some unknown men using counterfeit notes for transactions in the Raipur area on Wednesday. A police team started an investigation and checked footage of over 100 CCTV cameras in the area after which two suspects were identified.

Acting on a tip off, the suspects were stopped for checking near Ladpur junction in Raipur on Wednesday. The police recovered 18 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 from the accused named Avneet Kumar (30) and Vinay Kumar (28). The police have registered a case against both under relevant sections in the Raipur police station.

The officials informed that both accused belong to Bijnor, UP and allegedly confessed to circulating counterfeit notes there too. Avneet revealed during the inquiry that a man named Keshav from Noida supplied them counterfeit notes that they had circulated in different districts of different States to avoid any suspicion of locals and authorities. He said that they both had arrived in Dehradun to use the counterfeit notes but they could not succeed much as the police were checking people arriving from other States. They both were planning to go to Rajasthan to circulate the notes when police nabbed them, as per the officials. The police said they are looking for the history of the accused and checking their mobile Call Detail Record (CDR) to gather more evidence.

The police have appealed to the locals to beware of such scammers and advised to carry out each transaction carefully.
