A tiger injured in a fight with another big cat was successfully rescued by a Forest department team considering its repeated movements under the bypass bridge in Ramnagar’s Kosi range.
The sub divisional officer Ankit Badola said that information was being received for the past four days about the movement of a tiger under the bypass bridge in the Kosi range. The department set up a camera trap and a cage while also consistently monitoring the tiger.
On receiving information about the presence of the tiger in the area on Sunday, the departmental team managed to immobilise it and sent it to the Dhela rescue centre. Veterinarian Dr Dushyant Sharma who tranquilised the big cat said that the male tiger is aged about 10 years. He has marks of wounds on his body which appear to have been received in a fight with another big cat. The injury has also affected the tiger’s health. Blood samples of the big cat have been sent for laboratory tests. The condition of the tiger is serious at present, he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that fights for territory and prey are not uncommon in the Corbett tiger landscape with the tiger reserve having one of the highest tiger densities among such protected areas in the country.
