Kedarnath to reopen for devotees on May 17

The portals of Kedarnath shrine will be reopened for devotees on May 17. The shrine will be opened ceremoniously at 5 AM on Monday, May 17. The date and time were decided by priests after astrological calculations on the basis of the Hindu calendar at lord Kedarnath’s winter abode of Omkareshwar temple in Ukhimath on the occasion of Mahashivratri. It was also decided that the palanquin carrying the Panchmukhi idol of the lord will depart from Ukhimath to Kedarnath on May 14.

It is pertinent to mention here that with the date for reopening Kedarnath shrine in Rudraprayag district being finalised, the dates of reopening of all the Char Dham shrines in the state are now final.

The portals of the Badrinath temple in Chamoli district will be reopened to the public on May 18 while the portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines in Uttarkashi district are slated to be reopened to the public on the occasion of Akshay Tritiya on May 14.
