The chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal has directed the Rishikesh police to take strict action in response to a reported incident involving the alleged murder of a 19-year-old female, who was struck on the head with a pressure cooker. Providing this information, Kandwal said that she had recently become aware of an incident in which the young woman was allegedly killed by being struck on the head with a pressure cooker. In light of this, she talked with the police in-charge in Rishikesh to enquire about the matter, she added.

Kandwal informed that she had been informed by the police officer that according to the FIR, a Bhajan of Lord Ram was going on at the Sahni family residence in Mayakund on Monday. At that time, their neighbor Shivshankar Sahni, for unknown reasons, removed his clothes and began dancing. As a result, Rupa, who was the 19-year-old daughter of Sakal Sahni, tried to intervene. However, Shivshankar and his family members proceeded to assault Rupa and her family, ultimately causing her death as a result of being struck on the head with a cooker. The accused Shivshankar along with seven members of his family, have been charged with culpable homicide concerning the incident, she said

She further informed that in light of the matter, she has instructed the authorities to promptly investigate and apprehend all the accused within 24 hours, taking stringent action against them. The occurrence of such cases in the State is deeply regrettable and disgraceful, she said
