Thursday, 12 January 2023 | PNS | JOSHIMATH

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured the people of Joshimath affected by subsidence that all the buildings in the town will not be demolished while only two hotels will be demolished with consent. Reaching Joshimath on Wednesday and interacting with the affected people, he assured them that both the Central and State governments are with the people in this troubling time. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also taking regular updates on the situation and has assured all necessary assistance to the State and the people to tackle the situation. Dhami is scheduled to spend Wednesday night in Joshimath.

Dhami said that a committee has been formed for relief and rehabilitation, adding that further action will be taken with the involvement of prominent persons from all sections in the committee. The government’s priority is to ensure that the relief and rehabilitation works are executed in a proper manner, he said.

“Since the morning I was scheduled for programmes in other places also but I felt that I should be without our affected people in Joshimath at this time. PM Modi is also standing with us while also monitoring the situation and providing assistance. I hope that the subsidence has caused the damage it was to cause and that the situation will be better in the future so that national and international level sports events are also held here in the future. The Char Dham Yatra is also set to start in the future so one should not imply that the whole State is in danger. Our effort will be to take development works forward by balancing between ecology and economy,” he said. The CM further said that along with Joshimath the carrying capacity of other towns in the State will also be evaluated and if the constructions are more than the capacity then work will be done to slow it down.
