The old sacred flag pole will be brought down and replaced by the new sacred flag pole at Darbar Sahib as part of the Jhanda Mela here on Tuesday. According to the organising committee, the programme will begin at 7 AM on Tuesday with the bringing down of the old flag pole. Between 2 PM and 3 PM the new flag pole will be raised under the guidance of Mahant Devendra Das. On Thursday, the Nagar Parikrama will be undertaken by the Mahant and devotees. The Mahant has once again appealed to all the devotees and locals to strictly follow Covid guidelines. Meanwhile, a large number of devotees from various Indian States and abroad have arrived in Dehradun to participate in the rituals. The Shri Darbar Sahib Management Committee lent finishing touches to all necessary arrangements for the Jhanda Mela on Sunday evening. As per tradition, the Mahant also gave the Gurumantra to devotees on Monday evening, on the eve of the formal start of the Jhanda Mela. He said that the person who follows the path described by the Guru attains the feeling of heaven while being on earth.

Mahant Devendra Dass also exhorted the gathering to abstain from social evils like female foeticide, intoxication and dowry among others while also ensuring their roles in building a prosperous society and nation. He also raised serious concern over environmental conservation. He appealed to the devotees to go for afforestation and conserving water resources.
