Infection Rate from Covid -19 slides to 1.62 % in U’khand

Even as the Uttarakhand government has extended the Covid-19 curfew in the state till June 22, the analysis of the Covid-19 data from June 7 to 13 suggests that the infection rate (IR) in all the districts of the state have fallen below the crucial five percent mark.  The IR in ten out 13 districts of the state is less than three percent. The overall IR of the state in the last seven days is 1.62 percent. 

The data maintained by the Social Development for Communities (SDC) foundation suggest that in the week ending Sunday June 13, Pithoragarh district with an IR of 4.33 percent is at top of the  table in the state. Here 233 cases of the disease were reported from 5384 tests conducted. Almora has an IR of 4.32 percent and is followed by Nainital 3.02 percent and Dehradun 2.08 percent.  In Dehradun 34749 samples were tested from June 7 to 13 and out of them 722 cases were reported.  The plain districts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar have the least IR in the state. Haridwar has an IR of 0.86 while Udam Singh Nagar has an IR of 0.91 percent.

The founder of SDC foundation, Anoop Nautiyal said that the IR has declined steadily in Uttarakhand. He points out that in the week corresponding to the period May 24 to 30, ten districts of the state  had  IR  more than 5 percent  and now the IR has come below five percent in all 13 districts. He said that the Uttarakhand government should have greater flexibility in the unlock process to kick-start economic activity in the state.
