An alleged murderer left the scene of a murder barefoot which aroused the suspicion of the police. The man was arrested for allegedly murdering his friend following an argument. The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh informed the media that Kalsi resident Akshay Bhatt had informed the police on November 23 that a man’s body was hanging in a farmhouse on the banks of the Amlawa river.

The police reached the farmhouse where the dead person was identified as Sandeep, a resident of Haripur area of Kalsi. The police found the death suspicious and informed the family members of the deceased, in addition to which the field unit team was also called to the scene. Based on the complaint submitted by the family members of the deceased, the police lodged a case under section 302 of the IPC.

The SSP formed different teams to solve the case. The teams collected information from the local people and checked the footage from about 25 CCTV cameras in the area. While checking the CCTV camera footage, the police saw a friend of the deceased coming on a scooty but while returning, this man was not wearing his shoes. The police found this suspicious and took Shiv Singh Rana into custody for questioning. On being questioned sternly, Rana confessed that he had killed Sandeep and hung his body from a fan. He was arrested and presented in the court.

The SSP said that during questioning, the accused said that Sandeep was his friend but he used to comment often about his relationship with his sister in-law in front of other people. This had led to a dispute between the two men in the past too. On the day of the incident, Sandeep met Rana at the farmhouse situated on the banks of the Amlawa river. Rana said that on that day Sandeep again started commenting on his relations with his sister in-law which led to a heated argument.

The altercation turned violent with Rana beating Sandeep unconscious after which the accused hung him from a noose tied to a ceiling fan. The accused told the police that his shoes had the victim’s blood on them from the violent altercation so he washed them in the river and hid them on the banks of the river. After the crime, the accused put a lock on the farmhouse gate from outside and attempted to make the murder appear like a case of suicide. The shoes of the accused were also recovered by the police.
