Four Omicron cases reported in new year

The first day of 2022 brought with it four new Omicron cases in the state. According to the health director general Dr Tripti Bahuguna, the four persons were found positive for Omicron variant on Saturday following genome sequencing test of four Covid positive patients in the government Doon medical college laboratory. The sample of a 28-year old Dehradun resident was taken on December 21 and on being found positive for Covid-19 on the same day, was sent for genome sequencing. This man had travelled from abroad and arrived from Gurugram in Dehradun on December 17. Though asymptomatic, the youth was under home isolation. The second patient, a 23-year old Dehradun resident had arrived from Gurugram on December 21 and had been under home isolation though asymptomatic. His sample was sent for Covid test on December 24 and on being found positive, was sent for genome sequencing which revealed the Omicron variant. The third patient is a 15-year old also residing in Dehradun who had come into contact with the 23-year old man. The girl has been found positive for the Omicron variant but has no recent travel history.

The fourth patient is a 27-year old resident of Ahmedabad in Gujarat  who had come to Rishikesh on December 21 and had left for Ahmedabad on December 24 after his sample was collected for testing on December 23. The Gujarat government was informed after he was found positive for the Omicron variant. The health director general further informed that following the discovery of Omicron infected patients in the state, all hospitals have been directed to remain on alert while remaining prepared for all necessary protection and control measures. Appealing to all the citizens to strictly follow Covid appropriate behaviour, she asked the people to avoid crowded places, wear a mask and visit a doctor in case of cold.
