Landslide frequency increasing in Pagnau village in Joshimath

In latest Uttarakhand news, with landslides continuing unabated for the past two months in Pagnau village in Joshimath tehsil of Chamoli district, more than 50 families have come under the ambit of the landslide threat. The Chamoli district administration has started evacuating the affected families to safer places and accommodating them in tents. Over 16 buildings in the village have been affected by the landslide spree. These include secondary schools, anganwadi centres and forest department posts. The administrative officers are now collecting details about the affected families. Till now, the affected villagers have been provided with tents while about half a dozen families have been living in rented accommodations away from the village. Speaking of the matter, the gram pradhan Rima Devi said that with the frequency of landslides increasing in the village, all the families must be evacuated at the earliest. The sub-divisional magistrate Joshimath Kumkum Joshi said that she had made on-site inspection of the affected village in view of the increasing incidence of landslides and added that the people are being evacuated to safer places at the behest of the administration.
