Heavy snowfall alert issued for 5 districts, rain likely in most parts of State today

The State meteorological centre has issued an orange warning (Alert) regarding the possibility of heavy snowfall likely to occur at altitudes of 3,200 metres and above in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Saturday. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/hail/gusty wind (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at a few places in districts of Garhwal region and at isolated places in districts of Kumaon region. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of heavy rain likely to occur at a isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar and Nainital districts today. Apart from this, light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at most places in the State. Light to moderate snowfall is likely to occur at places situated at altitudes of 2,800 metres and above in the State today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a generally cloudy sky today. Few spells of light to moderate rain/thunderstorm accompanied with lightning/hail/gusty wind (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur with the likelihood of one or two spells being heavy in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 20 degrees Celsius and 12 degrees Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, Dehradun and other parts of the State experienced a cloudy sky on Friday with trace rainfall being reported in some places. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various places were 25.7 degrees Celsius and 12.1 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 27.5 degrees Celsius and eight degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 19.5 degrees Celsius and 6.8 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 14.4 degrees Celsius and 7.6 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. There was trace rainfall reported in Dehradun and New Tehri.
