Incessant rains continued to wreak havoc in the State on Wednesday.  Several rivers crossed the danger mark and created flood-like situations in plain areas. The heavy rains also triggered several landslides in several districts of the Garhwal division that restricted traffic on at least 100 roads. Some people were also reported to lost lives in accidents triggered by heavy rain.

The additional chief executive officer of Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) Ridhim Aggarwal said that all necessary measures are being taken to tackle disasters triggered by heavy rain.

She said, “There are usually about 40 posts of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) deployed in vulnerable districts but considering the vulnerability of the situation, we have deployed additional personnel in the Garhwal division. We are also trying that at least two teams of SDRF remain present in every district of the Kumaun division to ensure they can respond immediately during disasters. SDRF and NDRF have been directed to stay on high alert while ensuring they carry all necessary equipment all the time.”

She said that considering the rise in the water level of rivers, personnel from SDRF’s Flood Relief Company and water police have been deployed near all rivers to tackle possible disasters.
