The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Haridwar arrested three accused in the Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer (AE/JE) recruitment examination paper leak case including an official of the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) on Saturday. They were arrested a day after a case was registered against nine people in the Kankhal police station of Haridwar on the instruction of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The police have identified three accused as Sanjeev Kumar from Bihar, a UKPSC section officer besides Nitin Chauhan and Sunil Saini from Manglaur and Laksar of Haridwar district respectively, said the senior superintendent of police of Haridwar, Ajai Singh. He said that the police also recovered blank cheques of several banks besides Rs seven lakh cash from the arrested accused. Kumar revealed in the preliminary inquiry that he allegedly took about Rs 28 lakh to leak the question papers. Other accused also allegedly recovered lakhs of rupees from candidates to leak the paper. The officials also informed that the SIT also suspects the involvement of culprits involved in the Lekhpal-Patwari examination leak case in the AE/JE leak case as the matter came to light during the investigation of the Patwari leak case.  The main accused of the Patwari leak case Sanjeev Chaturvedi, who worked as a section officer in UKPSC too, allegedly carried out this cheating scam with the help of another section officer Sanjeev Kumar in alliance with a former BJP leader, as per the police. UKPSC conducted the JE examination from May 7 to 10 last year and a total of 3,853 candidates were selected in this written examination. The AE examination was conducted from April 23 for four days through which 531 candidates were selected by the commission. The SSP said that SIT investigating the matter will soon nab more accused involved in cheating scams.
