PIONEER NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Demanding proper rehabilitation for the people affected by the ambitious elevated road project over Rispana and Bindal rivers of Dehradun, former chief minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat held a silent protest at Bhagat Singh chowk in Ramnagar on Wednesday.
He said that the elevated road project is appreciable but the State government has not revealed its rehabilitation plan for the large number of the people affected by the project. Rawat said that the objective of his protest is to make the government aware and alert on the subject.
He claimed that all those residing in near these rivers from the date of implementation of the law passed by the Congress government in 2016 for giving ownership rights to slum dwellers are protected by the law and they cannot be removed untill a proper compensation is given to them or they are rehabilitated. The former CM said that residents of Vanbhoolpura and Dholak Basti in Haldwani got the protection from the law passed by the Congress government.
He said that during his tenure as CM, ownership was given to about 80,000 people but about 1.5 lakh people were left out. If notices are served to such people then it is injustice to them.
Rawat said that the State government should take a decision in this regard soon otherwise it should get ready to face an agitation.
