Saturday, 27 MAY 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

In latest Uttarakhand news, the State transport department has mandated that all the commercial vehicles in the State are required to be equipped with GPS installation systems by June 1 failing which the owners of the vehicles would be fined. The exemption given by the State transport department in this matter is expiring on May 31.

It is learnt that there are still about 10,000 commercial vehicles in the State which are yet to be equipped with GPS system.

The objective behind this mandate is to reduce the number of road accidents. Most of these accidents are ascribed to over-speeding.  To check reckless driving, the Centre has ordered all commercial vehicles to install GPS-based Vehicle Location Tracking Device System.
