Govt working to improve rural health facilities- Joshi

Union minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Coal and Mines, Pralhad Joshi said that the Central government is working to improve health facilities in the rural areas.He said this after interacting with the patients at the health and wellness centre in Chopadiyalgaon in Tehri district on Sunday.

The Union minister reached Chamba in the evening and was accorded an enthusiastic welcome by BJP workers. Visiting the health and wellness centre he inspected the various rooms and facilities therein. He also talked to four persons undergoing treatment for diabetes at the centre. Speaking later, the minister said that earlier the nation used to get about 50,000 doctors in a year but under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the nation is getting about 90,000 doctors in a year. The Central government is working towards preparing more than 1.5 doctors in the future, he said. Joshi further said that villagers used to face problems earlier due to distance from medical health services but the situation has improved now. He also stressed on the importance of practicing Yoga, maintaining cleanliness and consuming a balanced and nutritious diet to remain healthy. He said that health and wellness centres have been opened to raise health related awareness among the public. The minister also stressed on the importance of taking care of the nourishment provided to pregnant women. Joshi said that on being asked by the PM he had come here to check the health facilities and to facilitate redressal of any gaps through the district administration.  Referring to the Atal Ayushman Yojana, he said that the district administration and public representatives will have to undertake an elaborate campaign to ensure that nobody is left without the health card provided under this scheme. He said that PM Modi is serious about the health of the people which is why he had sent most ministers from the Centre to tour various districts of the nation to resolve the problems being faced there.

The Tehri MLA Kishore Upadhyaya put forth the demand for opening a medical college in the district. Devprayag MLA Vinod Kandari said that the State government is facilitating 250 types of health tests free and making efforts to further improve the health services. District magistrate Eva Srivastava, chief medical officer Dr Sanjay Jain and public representatives along with officials were also present on the occasion.
