The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh has expressed anguish over what he called the failure of the state government to provide succour to the people reeling under twin onslaught of the pandemic and unemployment. He said that the people had high expectations from the cabinet meeting held on Friday but it failed to provide any relief. Singh said that it was expected that the government would roll out some relief package for the traders and small merchants but no such measure was taken. He said that the state government rejected the proposal of the food supplies department on distribution of free ration in the cabinet which is unfortunate. The PCC president said that a large number of people working in different sectors became unemployed during the pandemic and now a crisis of livelihood looms large on them. He said that uncontrolled prices too have added to the woes of the people. Singh said that considering this situation the people had expected that the government would come out with a relief package but their hopes were dashed. He suggested that the government should show empathy towards those who have become unemployed and set up a road map for them.

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress, Surya Kant Dhasmana also attacked the government for failing to provide free ration to the people during the pandemic. He claimed that all the government has promised is two kilgrammes of sugar at Rs 25 per kilogramme.  Dhasmana said that since sugar is available at Rs 40 per kilogramme in the open market it means that the state government has provided a help of only Rs 30 per family.
