Nainital resident avails more than five lakhs in the Ayushman Bharat scheme

First in the state to do so

Nainital resident Mohammad Hasim became the first person in the state to get treatment costing more than five lakhs in the Ayushman Bharat scheme. There is a limit of Rs five lakhs in a year for the golden card holders under the scheme but the limit can be increased in exceptional cases.  Hasim, 62 years old, was suffering from a type of heart failure.  He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh recently.

The associate professor at department of cardiology, Dr Barun Kumar said that to save the life of this patient of heart failure, it was very important to install a CRT-D device in his body. “This device functions like a pacemaker. After all tests found that the patient has breathing problems and his heart function is not functioning properly and the heart size has also become larger. It was decided to install CRT-D devices to save the life of the patient. This process of installing the device has been done without making the patient unconscious,’’ he said.

The Director AIIMS Rishikesh, Dr Ravikant commended the team of doctors who carried out the complex procedure of device transplantation. The State Coordinator of Ayushman Bharat Yojana Uttarakhand, Atul Joshi said this is the first case in the state of treatment of a person with a Golden Card costing more than Rs five lakh.
