Considering the inconvenience faced by pregnant women visiting the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital, the hospital administration has decided to relocate the ultrasound facility to the first floor from the ground floor. Several pregnant women had expressed concern at the GDMC hospital’s recent decision to shift the OPD from the ground floor to the first floor. They pointed out that in some cases, the doctor advised them to get the ultrasound done and that they had to come back to the ground floor for this.  Being in different stages of pregnancy, climbing the stairs is difficult for them as it makes them breathless.

The officials shifted the OPD of gynaecology from the ground floor to the first floor on April 1 in order to manage the crowd. Dwelling on this, a pregnant woman Sheenu Rai expressed concern about the relocation of OPD to the first floor from the ground floor causing difficulties for pregnant women. The need to climb stairs has led to instances of breathlessness for her. She said that the hospital administration has not shifted the ultrasound facility to the first floor, requiring pregnant patients to return to the ground floor for this, which has become inconvenient. The authorities should relocate the ultrasound facility near the gynaecology OPD for the convenience of the patients, she added.

Another pregnant woman Monisha Kumari said that the officials at GDMC have recently decided to relocate the gynaecology OPD, which has raised concerns among pregnant patients like her. She suggested that, instead of just moving the OPD, the authorities should also relocate the ultrasound facility to the same location to make it easier and more convenient for pregnant women, she added.

Medical superintendent at GDMC Dr Dhananjay Dobhal told this correspondent that to manage patient crowds more efficiently based on specific medical problems, the hospital administration had relocated the gynaecology OPD recently. The gynaecology OPD with more patients was moved from the ground floor to the first floor in place of the psychiatry OPD with fewer patients. Taking cognisance of the pregnant women patients’ concerns regarding the ultrasound facility, the hospital administration has decided to move the ultrasound facility to the first floor with the OPD of gynaecology, he added.
