The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital has made necessary preparations to tackle any rise in cases of Covid-19, the chief medical superintendent (CMS) Dr RS Bisht said. He said that the hospital administration is fully equipped to address the recent uptick in Covid-19 cases. Although no cases have been recorded at the hospital so far, the administration has ensured that all essential measures are in place to handle Covid-19 cases effectively in the future. Bisht further said that a designated isolation ward, with beds reserved, has been identified. Additionally, he said that the operational status of ventilators, oxygen cylinders, oxygen plants and other vital equipment has been confirmed. Instructions have also been issued to doctors to remain vigilant and ready. Regarding the separate flu outpatient department (OPD) within the hospital premises, the CMS stated that, to date, no increase in flu cases has been observed in the OPD at the GDMC hospital. However, they are also prepared for a separate flu OPD in the future, if required. The location for this separate flu OPD has already been identified. Dr Bisht further emphasised that there is no cause for panic, as this variant is not particularly dangerous, but encouraged the public to continue following safety precautions, including maintaining social distance and ensuring proper sanitation.
It will be recalled that earlier the secretary of the Health department, R Rajesh Kumar, had urged the public not to panic and to take essential precautions to address the Covid-19 issue. He also informed earlier that the Health department had already provided guidelines concerning the recent uptick in Covid-19 to all district magistrates across the State, as well as to the chief medical officers (CMOs). These guidelines instructed them to enhance surveillance in light of the recent cases of Covid-19.
