Free treatment to more than 9 lakh patients under Ayushman scheme

Rs 1,700 crore spent by government on free treatment: Rawat

More than nine lakh patients have received free treatment under the Ayushman scheme in the State so far. Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat informed that the government has so far spent Rs 1,700 crore on providing free treatment under the scheme. The maximum number of patients have availed the benefit of this scheme in Dehradun district with more than 2.47 lakh getting free treatment.

It will be recalled that the facility of free treatment costing upto Rs five lakh is provided per family in one year under the Ayushman scheme in the State.  Rawat said that since the start of the scheme till the present, more than nine lakh people have received free medical treatment under it. The feedback being received from all the districts from the treated patients and their caretakers is satisfactory. Stating that the government has spent about Rs 1,700 crore on providing free treatment to beneficiaries under this scheme, the minister said that the State government is committed to addressing the issues of public health. Every person is being provided proper treatment with strict instructions being issued to the officials concerned to ensure this, he claimed. Rawat further averred that the work under the scheme is being executed in a better manner, for which the Central government has also awarded the State.

The chief executive officer of the State Health Authority Dr Anand Srivastav said that all attempts are being made to ensure that the benefit of Ayushman scheme reaches all the people. Targets have also been set for preparing Ayushman cards and Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) cards in the State, he added.

According to official data, 2,47,350 patients have received free treatment under the scheme in Dehradun district, 24,063 in Almora district, 10,396 in Bageshwar district, 32,033 in Chamoli district, 14,874 in Champawat district, 1,53,791 in Haridwar district, 78,617 in Nainital district, 75,687 in Pauri district, 27,798 in Pithoragarh district, 53,573 in Tehri district, 1,32,633 in Udham Singh Nagar district and 30,134 in Uttarkashi district. A total of 9,00,493 patients have received free treatment under the scheme so far.
