40,000 banners & posters removed after imposition of MCC

The Election Commission has removed banners and posters from about 40,000 buildings in 24 hours after the imposition of model code of conduct (MCC) in the State.

The joint chief electoral officer of Uttarakhand, Namami Bansal told mediapersons on Monday that from March 16 after the imposition of MCC in view of the Lok Sabha elections a drive has been initiated to remove political banners and posters. She said that seizures of cash and liquor in all the districts are also being done.

The commission has seized more than Rs seven crore cash from March 1 to 16. Further, Static Surveillance Team (SST), Flying Squad Teams (FSTs) and Quick Response Teams (QRTs) have been constituted in the State. The State has 293 FSTs and 158 QRTs, she added.
